It’s freezing; it’s winter. You’re absolutely fed up of purchasing Christmas gifts and require something that will preserve your spirit until Christmas day itself - this is the film that will hit the spot for you.

Countless people when they first saw the trailer to Spike Jonze’s new film, Where The Wild Things Are, perhaps concluded that this is just a children’s film and nothing that will even survive on the screens further than a month – it is adapted from a children’s book after all. However, when the music surges in like a bitter wind and we see the monumental characters exploring the mythical landscapes, we enthusiastically realise this is a film not for children exclusively, but about childhood itself.

Max, our young protagonist, always craves enjoyment and possesses an endless imagination. After an argument with his mum, he runs away from home and as the night advances, abnormal creatures grasp him and take him on an enchanting and inspiring journey.

Accommodating spine tingling animation that will really make you feel like your there and a momentous soundtrack featuring the dynamic Arcade Fire and Karen O from the indie favourites Yeah Yeah Yeahs, you can’t help be impressed by what will be a treasure for generations to come. A new apex for filmmaking has been affirmed and this is an up-to-date reminder of what a staggeringly beautiful book it was, and still is.
