Just Jack: Beat Boutique
Saturday 31st October 2009 @ Motion, Bristol
Written By: Tom Southerby

It seems Halloween is taken a lot more seriously these days and entering Motion’s Just Jack Beat Boutique, you'd be forgiven for thinking you'd walked onto the set of Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Ghastly ghouls, zombie nurses and psycho surgeons are aplenty and it's a new experience to be on the dance floor alongside glow-in-the-dark skeletons and bloodied goth-vampires.

Well done to Motion for putting on what must be one of the best Halloween nights in recent memory, the mix of music and mayhem provided a perfect platform to revel in style. Music was provided firstly from Four Tet who apply a fresh electo sound to their famous fusion of musical genres, ranging from jazz to hip-hop and breaks.

This was followed by the legendary Andrew Weatherall from Warp Records
who squeezes a tight, blistering set into one of the clubs many dark coves. If you need a break from all the craziness, fun is to be had roller-skating alongside clockwork orange hoodlums.

By 4am the al fresco beats were exhausted and the heavens opened to
drench the Halloween hordes, running black mascara everywhere. What a
“wicked” night!
